Scholarship for Indigenous Students
Enlight’s mission is to bring education to underprivileged children wherever in the world there is need and wherever we can help. We do not discriminate based on faith, ethnicity or gender. With this scholarship program, we want to provide critical financial aid to a marginalized community in Canada.
According to Statistics Canada’s 2016 census data, there was a 22% difference in university attainment between non-Aboriginal Identity students and Aboriginal Identity students. Although university and college enrolment has been increasing for Aboriginal students, it has also been growing for all other students, which has resulted in a persistent gap (Statistics Canada, 2016).
With this scholarship program, Enlight’s goal is to help close this gap and provide funds for Indigenous students looking to pursue post-secondary education. Our scholarship offers $500 to any Status First Nation, Non-Status First Nation, Inuit, or Métis high school student. They must be enrolled in a minimum two-to-four-year degree or diploma program at an accredited Canadian university or college while maintaining a minimum 60% course load.
